The Gold Coast Model Raceway is an evolution of the Murwillumbah Remote Controlled Car Club. The MRCCC started in January of 2001, with meetings held at the SDA church car park, Racecourse Rd, Murwillumbah, using their 40 by 80 meter car park to layout a 251-meter long track with race days held every three weeks on a Sunday.
The club has a high emphasis on having a good time and supplying an activity for families and the disadvantaged. The club has designed the drivers stand to have wheel chair access so that everyone can enjoy the sport of radio control car racing.
During the first year the club averaged some 20 drivers per meeting, 38 drivers in 2002 and 70 drivers in 2003.
2004 was the first year the club ran an invitation meeting called the AUF Challenge in April, In October the club changed it's venue to the MDSA (Mudgeeraba District Sporting Assosiation) and ran a two day event for EP & GP road cars. During 2004 the club averaged 55 drivers per meeting and since moving to Mudgeeraba has seen entry number rapidly increasing with entries in the 80s expected during 2005.
As of mid-October 2005, we are in the middle of negotiation with the Gold Coast city council to build a permanent on-road and off-road track that caters up to 1/5th scale. We expect construction to start within the next few months once we receive the green light from the city council. |
